'Glamorous art deco' style to be prominent in homes

A glamorous art deco style is set to be popular across British homes in the near future, one expert has predicted.

Interiors journalist Ellie Tennant has estimated that this approach to interior design will be influenced by a renewal of interest in The Great Gatsby, as the F Scott Fitzgerald book will be adapted into a film later this year.

The movie will follow a selection of theatre productions of the novel, with Ms Tennant suggesting that the increased interest in the legendary story could help to shape trends on the high street and how people decorate their properties.

"Perhaps because of the recession it's been very fashionable to be pared back and simple recently, but one of the things I've really seen coming through is a glamorous, decadent kind of look," she commented.

Ms Tennant also noted that the Queen's jubilee will impact the work that residents undertake on their properties.

She explained: "Everybody is talking about the jubilee, and I'm sure we will be decorating in a temporary way for jubilee tea parties with bunting and things.

"But in a more permanent home décor way, I don't think realistically we're all going to run out and paint our homes red, white and blue."

Ms Tennant continued by saying that a 1920s art deco look is begin to become fashionable in the interiors market, and added that the recession may have influenced how people design their homes.

"Perhaps because of the recession it's been very fashionable to be pared back and simple recently, but one of the things I've really seen coming through is a glamorous, decadent kind of look," she stated.

Nonetheless, Ms Tennant warned people against cashing in on the trend by completing revamps of their homes, explaining that the art deco look can be integrated simply by purchasing bronze cushions with designs on them that reflect the trend.

Home improvement work was recently advocated by Paul Minderides, a professional tradesman from Wickes, who claimed that renovating can give residents the opportunity to be creative and make their surroundings more artistic.
