Advice given when travelling to Nigeria during elections
Brits seeking out travel insurance in order to take a trip to Nigeria have been given advice about travelling to the country during election proceedings.
The African country will be holding its presidential elections tomorrow (April 16th), followed by its Gubernational voting event on April 26th.
As a result, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has warned that movements and restrictions are set to take place throughout.
"You should exercise caution and vigilance during the election period, particularly in areas where there are political or other large public gatherings," the organisation urged.
On both sets of election dates, the FCO noted that Nigerian airports could be subjected to restrictions, with these applying from 08:00 to 16:00 and then 22:00 to 06:00 local time.
However, travel insurance customers should note that local authorities hold the rights to extend these restrictions if the need arises.
The presidential election sees current leader Goodluck Jonathan competing against Muhammadu Buhari and Nuhu Ribadu.
