Accident victims could claim compensation cash quicker

Car insurance policy holders injured in road accidents could receive compensation far quicker than they may previously have expected.

A new, streamlined compensation system announced today (September 29th) has been designed to enable fast and cost-effective progress through each stage of a claim.

It is estimated that up to 400,000 people could benefit from the arrangement by claiming on their car insurance policy.

The system will deal with compensation requests for between £1,000 and £10,000 - which make up around 80 per cent of all motor accident injury claims.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) director of general insurance and health Nick Starling said: "This new process will cut down on delays and reduce the high legal costs that are paid for through motor insurance premiums.

"It is now vital that employees injured at work have the same opportunity as those injured on our roads."

Standard electronic claims forms, allowing claims to be made quicker and without duplication, are the basis of the new compensation system.

The ABI has been campaigning for a simpler compensation process for some time.
