BIBA advises on car insurance

Individuals looking to renew or take out car insurance in the UK have been urged to contact a broker in order to get the best deal.

Peter Staddon, head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, said that many people focus too closely on cost and can sacrifice much-needed cover by doing so.

In order to avoid costly claims, individuals should be prepared to pay more for their insurance in the first place, he noted.

"Does the consumer really understand what is meant by a price comparison site? You need to concentrate on the cover not the price ... Online aggregator sites make assumptions and this can create problems," Mr Staddon commented.

Research published by AA insurance recently showed that the average car insurance premium is now increasing at its fastest rate in more than a decade.

Between April and June this year, the average premium rose by 3.5 per cent to £778.13, according to the AA British Insurance Premium Index.

Did you know that UIA offers competitive rates on home insurance? Great deals also available on car insurance, travel insurance and pet insurance too. Up to 15% discount when you apply online.

What our clients say

Simply the best
"I have had a UIA policy for a long time and no one has ever come close on price. I had to claim for a robbery on a previous policy and it was quick and easy to get everything sorted out."
