Car insurance policyholders could be relieved that police are tackling vehicle crime

Drivers in Stockport could be relieved to hear that police in the area are cracking down on vehicle crime in a move which could prevent a number of car insurance claims.

Inspector Brian Nicholls explained: "In the warmer months people obviously open their windows and sunroofs but we are asking them to secure them again when they are leaving their vehicle unattended."

What's more, he recommended taking any valuable items out of the car to prevent opportunistic break-ins, adding that thieves are "always on the lookout for an easy target".

Incidents involving motors has been reduced in Stockport by more than 25 per cent when compared with last year's figures.

Crimestoppers recommends car owners leave their vehicle in a well-lit place or in a locked garage where available.

Store insurance documents and log books at home and never leave them in the glove compartment while wheels can be secured with locking nuts.
