Motor insurance may be vital in car jacking hotspots

The importance of car insurance to road users in Greater Manchester may have been emphasised by a recent rise in car jackings.

Over the last four months, around 30 people are thought to have become victims of the crime in south and central Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police are urging drivers to follow their advice - which could help to prevent a car insurance claim.

Detective sergeant Richard Arthern states: "By ensuring that keys are not left easily accessible through letterboxes or windows, the public can help us to reduce offences even further."

Locking all doors, wearing a seat belt and not using a mobile phone when returning to a vehicle are some of the tips offered by Greater Manchester Police which may help people avoid car jackers.

Grampian Police recently highlighted the importance of keeping car keys secure, stating that there have been a growing number of incidents in which vehicles have been stolen after keys were left in the door or ignition.
