Flooding could be on the way for Britain
British weather could yet again prove troublesome for homeowners, as flood alerts have been put in place for many areas across the country.
It is expected that a month's worth of rain will fall over the course of the next 24 hours, meaning that it could be beneficial for residents to check that their home is as well-protected as possible.
The Met Office has issued amber alerts for the east, south-east and south-west of England, while showers are also set to hit parts of Wales, which has already been adversely affected by the weather in recent days.
Overall, by 10:00GMT today (June 11th), 36 flood alerts were announced by the Environment Agency across the UK, while one flood warning was issued for areas of Surrey and West Sussex, where immediate action is required in order to tackle the threat.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Ruth Steele, a Met Office forecaster, said: "There has been some persistent, heavy rain overnight and that is going to continue in southern areas throughout today.
"This afternoon and tonight we are going to see some very heavy, thundery showers, which could make driving conditions treacherous and cause flooding in some places."
The Met Office also expects the wet weather to stay throughout the weekend and into the next two weeks, meaning that it could be the ideal time for people to check that their properties are properly guarded for an onslaught of rain.
Such conditions could lead to a rise in home insurance claims, as poor weather was one of the reasons why there was an increase in weather-related buildings insurance claims last winter.
The overall number jumped by 56 per cent when compared to the previous year, according to MoneySupermarket, which also found that more than half (55.9 per cent) of the claims were due to weather related incidents.
This marked a substantial increase from 2010, where just 35.3 per cent of claims were caused by natural conditions.
