Burglars responsible for 31 break-ins sent to jail

Home insurance policyholders in Great Yarmouth might be pleased to hear three burglars have been sent to jail.

They were said to be responsible for 31 break-ins which took place between June 2009 and February this year, the Great Yarmouth Mercury reports.

Detective Constable Jim Starling said: "This has been a significant investigation as the three men carried out a great number of crimes ... [we] hope this will act as a deterrent to others and will also provide some comfort to the victims."

The total value of items taken during the criminals' reign is estimated to be at least ?50,000 worth of jewellery and cash.

One of the men, John Storey, aged 29 from Ely Street, will be imprisoned for three-and-a-half years in a sentence that will run consecutively with another he is already serving, the publication continues.

Meanwhile, in Sefton, a distraction burglar has been jailed for six years after being convicted of a string of offences, ic Sefton and West Lancs reports.
