Contents insurance could be important in growing rental market

Britain's increasing number of tenants could be wise to carefully select home contents insurance before moving into their rented property.

New figures released by the Association of Residential Letting Agents show each of its members signed up an average of 36 new tenants during the last quarter, compared with 32.6 in the previous one.

With the number of tenants on the rise, it could be important for them to remember to value their possessions accurately in order to gain an effective policy and fair premium.

Landlords are also recommended to update their property insurance, bearing in mind any changes to the tenancy arrangements.

For tenants, it may be particularly important to consider the cost of clothes, as these could be undervalued by policy holders.

The news comes on the same day that cyclists were reminded that their bikes can be included on many home contents insurance policies.
