Home insurance customers may be relieved to hear "prolific" burglar come clean

Property owners living in Greater Manchester may be relieved to hear that a "prolific" thief has admitted his crimes.

Liam Andrew Souter, aged 20, of HMP Lancaster Farms, was already serving time in prison for aggravated burglary and assault and decided to admit 67 further break-ins.

Detective Sergeant Ian Shore said: "Nobody wants to be the victim of crime and burglary is an especially intrusive offence to have committed against you. I hope Souter's admissions can act as some sort closure for his victim."

The police officer confirmed this behaviour is unusual and added that it demonstrates a commitment from the perpetrator to live a life free of crime.

Souter has been sentenced to five years in prison to run concurrently after he accompanied police around the area to identify properties he had targeted during 2004 and 2008.

Burglary is often an opportunistic crime and experts would recommend householders keep windows and doors locked when they are not in use.

Ensuring a sufficient house and contents insurance policy is in place would also be a good idea.
