Home insurance news: 6-year jail term for Sefton distraction burglar
A distraction burglar from Sefton has been sentenced to six years imprisonment, news of which might make home insurance customers breathe a sigh of relief.
The perpetrator has been dubbed "cunning and callous" by Detective Inspector Paul Parry, according to ic Sefton and West Lancs.
"Burglary is a crime which affects people's lives long after the offence itself and is something we treat very seriously," DI Parry continued.
On one occasion, the criminal claimed to be a soldier returning from duty and asked an elderly lady if he could enter her home for a cup of tea - he then made off with her purse after searching through her cupboards and drawers.
He stated that he was locked out of his own property during another incident and on another said he was a neighbour's grandson and was checking on residents on their behalf, the publication continues.
Officers have reminded property owners to remain vigilant and check the identity of anyone claiming to be from an official organisation.
