Home insurance policies 'will cover bicycles'

Cycling enthusiasts may be pleased to learn that loss or damage to their bike can be covered on their home insurance policy.

Adding a bicycle to a household contents policy is easy and popular, BIKEmagic explains, although it is worth noting exactly where and when you will be covered.

For example, some policies will insure your bike only when it is in your home, while others will offer protection no matter what your location.

This is especially important to consider if you cycle abroad.

Mike Davis, BIKEmagic editor, said: "Choose [your policy] with care. There's no point having insurance if it doesn't cover your particular circumstances."

Cyclists are advised to store their bike somewhere safe and to always lock it if parking it in public.

Earlier this month comparison site Card Smart revealed Britain is currently experiencing a cycling boom but also that bike thefts are up 22 per cent on last year.

Did you know that UIA offers competitive rates on home insurance? Great deals also available on car insurance, travel insurance and pet insurance too. Up to 15% discount when you apply online.

What our clients say

Simply the best
"I have had a UIA policy for a long time and no one has ever come close on price. I had to claim for a robbery on a previous policy and it was quick and easy to get everything sorted out."
