Millions of homeowners across the UK could be unwittingly invalidating their home insurance policies by failing to properly secure their properties, it has been claimed.
During the present spell of hot weather which the UK is currently enjoying it could be tempting to leave windows and doors open when going out of the house.
However, a survey carried out by Swinton Insurance revealed that 81 per cent of people were unaware that doing so could invalidate their home insurance should they be a victim of burglary.
"Failing to carry out these preventative measures could invalidate home insurance, which will leave people severely out of pocket if burgled," Steve Chelton, from Swinton, said.
Meanwhile, Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council. Recently said that individuals carrying out home improvements on their property could also unwittingly invalidate their cover by carrying out major structural work without the help of a qualified professional.
