Protect your pooch, parrot or python with pet insurance
Pet insurance could save Britons money this winter by avoiding hefty veterinary bills should pets require medical treatment.
The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) gives free care to around 1.8 million pets each year if their owners are unable to afford veterinary fees.
But for all those pet owners who are not entitled to the free cover, pet insurance is the only way to avoid splashing the cash if a pet gets sick.
With relatively cheap premiums designed to cover potentially serious and expensive circumstances, pet insurance might be a must-have to hordes of animal lovers.
The PDSA is also reminding pet-owners to carry an emergency card with details of who will look after their pet if they have to spend time away from home.
Lucy Mold, PDSA legacy manager, said: "Carrying a PDSA emergency card helps ensure your pets will be looked after, whatever life has in store. It also encourages people to start putting plans into place, just in case."
