Photograph valuables in case of theft

Homeowners could increase the chances of retrieving their items if they are stolen by photographing all valuables and items of sentimental worth in the home.

According to Hampshire Constabulary, the unusual measure can make it easier to reunite recovered stolen items with their owners.

Although home insurance will often pay out for home contents, items which have memories or sentimental worth cannot be replaced so easily.

The advice from police came after a spate of opportunistic burglaries in the county.

PC Duncan Filer said: "We would also urge people to photograph their valuable and sentimental pieces to help us in identifying items that we do recover."

Last month, police in Hillingdon advised the public on the importance of making sure they lock all doors and windows when at home to prevent a welcome entrance for burglars who are trying to make a quick steal, especially with Christmas presents now being more prominent in houses.
