Pro-active Oldham police may prevent home insurance claims
Being in the right place at the right time recently allowed police in Oldham to catch one burglar in the act - and could have prevented a home insurance claim in the process.">
Police community support officer (PCSO) Kieran Jones was still in his first month with the Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team when he made his first arrest - catching a man on suspicion of burglary after seeing him leaving a property whose alarm was sounding.
Inspector Karen Taylor says: "This is a great result for the team and shows the dedication and teamwork of all the officers involved."
While PCSO Jones pursued the man on foot, PCSO Sue Hoyle remained at the property, ensuring nobody else was inside.
The thorough approach may have helped not only to make sure that all of the perpetrators were apprehended, but also that no further thefts led to a need for home insurance claims to be filed by the householders.
Homeowners in the region are advised to lock their doors to keep burglars out, while making it appear as though someone is in the property even at times when it is left vacant.
