Protect against home insurance claims this summer, police warn
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has urged people in the area to maximise house security this summer and possibly reduce the chance of having to make an insurance claim.
Authorities in Bolton have warned residents that warmer months often lead to doors and windows being unlocked or left open - but extra care needs to be taken in making sure they are closed if a room or property is unoccupied.
Opportunistic thieves will take advantage of people's carelessness, the force added.
Superintendent John Lyons explained: "Around one in three burglaries in Bolton are due to insecure homes. Please help us stop these opportunists by keeping your doors locked at all times."
He added that there were 598 fewer burglary cases this year as a result of work undertaken to increase consumer awareness.
Those who have sheds and garages are also being encouraged to keep them securely locked.
GMP also announced this week a trio had been jailed for a robbery on Stretford Road, Manchester.
