Security warning for home insurance customers
Home insurance policyholders should be vigilant when dealing with unexpected callers at their property.">
Thames Valley Police warned homeowners to keep doors locked at all times, to check through the spy hole or window to identify callers and to put the chain or bar on before opening the door to strangers.
Crime reduction adviser Romy Freiburghaus said there is often a rise in distraction burglaries at this time of year.
"We ask that residents are alert to this and take the necessary precautions to avoid becoming a victim of such crime," she added.
The warning comes after a suspicious incident was reported in Midgham when an unexpected caller quizzed a homeowner about their extension and offered to recommend a builder.
And while home and contents insurance could give peace of mind, negligence could invalidate any claims if for example it was discovered a burglar gained entry to a property through a window which was left open by accident.
