Travel insurance customers 'enjoy cheap skiing holidays in France'

Those enjoying cheap travel insurance have also been able to take advantage of low fares to France's ski resorts this winter.

EasyJet reported that the Alpine destinations of Chamonix, Meribel and Val d'Isere were among the airline's ten most popular destinations over the last few months.

British Ski Club spokesperson Venessa Fisher said the travel sector had been concerned that French resorts would struggle due to the recession, but cheap prices on flights and accommodation combined with guaranteed snow meant a good spell for the main resorts.

"Places like Meribel and Val d'Isere, they fulfil all the criteria for what British skiers are looking for. They've got large ski areas and the resorts are often connected to somewhere else," she added.

Low prices in mid-week have also helped skiers to break the Saturday to Saturday routine and travel on weekdays instead.

Chamonix proved to be the most popular destination for British EasyJet customers during the winter season, with five of the top six locations all in France.
