Travel insurance customers keen for the long-haul

Long-haul destinations are being favoured by UK holidaymakers as they seek to save as much as possible ? savings which could also be aided by cheap travel insurance.

Turkey and Egypt are being favoured by Brits seeking value from their foreign locations, with sales up 63 per cent and 47 per cent respectively, according to research from On the Beach.

Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), said: "In a lot of markets we've seen sterling not performing very well over the last few years, but pretty much every destination is good for us because the quality [and] the price of living is cheaper."

Favourable exchange rates are also helping to make the Maldives, Thailand, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Malaysia the top ten locations with travel operator Kuoni.

ABTA also noted travel to Spanish resorts had defied predictions and increased, with the Balearic and Canary Islands showing rises of 39 per cent and 26 per cent year-on-year.

Savvy travellers will also need to look into travel insurance policies to ensure the best level of cover is available at a good price.
