UK travel insurance 'cheaper than US'
Holidaymakers in the UK receive a far better deal on travel insurance than their US counterparts, suggests an industry professional.
The average cost of a policy for UK travellers is around £30, while those venturing outside of the US will have to pay around £150, an expert told the Wall Street Journal.
Chris Harvey, the chief executive of Squaremouth ? a comparison site - said the cost and level of cover can differ significantly between the two countries, with UK consumers the clear winners.
"They'll [UK customers] get something like £5 million in medical cover for that £30. For our $200 (£131), we will get something like $100,000 worth in medical [cover]," he said.
He advised any US citizens living in the UK and travelling back home to purchase their travel cover from a British-based insurer in order to save money and receive more comprehensive cover.
Searching online can be a good way to find cheap insurance as internet-only firms often save money by having lower operating costs and overheads.
