Consumers advised to consider home security options

People should examine their security measures in order to enhance their property's safety and potentially reduce the likelihood of having to make a home insurance claim, it has been suggested.

Sergeant Craig Ogborne of Thornbury police station made his comments to the Gazette Series after a "dramatic rise" in crime in the Cromhall area of Gloucestershire.

He explained this had included thefts of costly machinery, as well as fuel, hardware and work wear.

As such, the policeman told the publication that people should think about their existing security strategies and consider upgrading them.

He suggested such improvements could range from additional external lighting on properties to attaching chains to large pieces of machinery or installing ground anchors to weigh such items down.

Mr Ogborne's comments echo those of Noel Devine from Bradford South CID, who recently recommended people keep their doors locked during the evening, even if they are downstairs in their property.Copyright
