UNISON reveals latest insurance claims activity
Workers' union UNISON has updated on its latest insurance claims activity, including one case of a man who was unable to continue his lifesaving work after suffering whiplash injuries.
UNISON pursues insurance claims as part of its work securing compensation payouts for its members.
In the latest case, Robert Briggs was injured when another motorist hit him from behind in November 2005 while he was travelling along the M27.
"Everything changed overnight after the accident; I never realised how debilitating whiplash injuries could be," he said.
The outcomes of the event include Mr Briggs developing a psychological condition that prevents him from driving long distances.
He was also unable to continue as a senior helmsman for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute as his injuries meant he failed the medical.
UNISON previously warned people who work from home that they should ensure they do not invalidate their home insurance cover and should contact their provider to determine any effect that their employment could have on their policy.
