BIBA 'calls for insurers to band together'
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has called for insurers to band together during the economic downturn to provide an improved level of service to consumers.
Eric Galbraith, chief executive of the BIBA, outlined three factors that will help restore consumer confidence in the car and home insurance sectors in the UK.
He noted that primarily insurers themselves need to raise their standards and make sure all clients are dealt with fairly and with their best interests at heart.
Furthermore, regulators must begin to take a more measured approach to ensure that guidelines are followed correctly and the government must realise that the sector provides a key public service and support it accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Chartered Insurance Institute recently published its plan to help improve professionalism across the insurance industry.
The organisation has set up a taskforce to boost professional services in the industry. Its first meeting was held on Monday (May 11th).
