Wrapped Christmas presents 'could pose household insurance risk'

As the festive season approaches, property owners might be tempted to display their carefully-wrapped Christmas presents beneath the tree - but one expert has suggested this could pose a household insurance risk.

Writing for financial advice guide MSN Money Esther Shaw has stated such a practice could prove tempting for potential burglars.

She explained that placing gifts "in full view of the street" could be "very inviting" to an opportunistic thief.

Indeed, consumers might want to contact their insurance provider to specify any particularly high-value items on their policy, such as designer clothes, large televisions or games consoles.

What's more, Ms Shaw went on to say, is that some home insurance claims are lodged as a result of residents simply forgetting to lock their doors or windows, which could leave some policies invalid.

"If in doubt, go back and check - it's better to be safe than sorry," she concluded.
