Female car insurance customers 'fear staged accidents'

The biggest fear of female car insurance customers is being involved in a staged accident, with one-third of women admitting it is their biggest road worry.

According to a survey carried out for the Association of British Insurers (ABI) by YouGov, the concern playing on the mind of most males with motor insurance is their car being vandalised.

Most annoying to motorists overall is the cost of running a car - something which could make the search for cheap car insurance to drive down the overall cost of motoring especially important.

Six out of ten cite the financial hit as a significant grievance, with 44 per cent opting for traffic congestion and 41 per cent choosing the poor state of roads.

A third also say that they feel being behind the wheel is where they are most likely to suffer serious injury, possibly emphasising the benefits of taking out a comprehensive car insurance policy.

Research by uSwitch.com earlier this month revealed that 12 per cent of learner drivers are taught by amateurs - a factor that may also cause road safety issues.
