RAC urges car insurance customers to know drink-drive limits this Christmas
More than nine in ten car insurance customers require further information on drink-driving regulations and alcohol units, leading to fears some could get behind the wheel while over the limit this Christmas.
An annual Report on Motoring by the RAC found that 85 per cent of people are unsure over how much they can drink and still be allowed to either drive home or get in the car the next morning.
The motoring organisation is now urging the government to provide clearer rules and limits to drivers before the festive season kicks off.
However, of those surveyed, 71 per cent said they would be supportive of more stringent measures taken to combat drink-driving, such as an increased number of random breath tests.
Motoring strategist at the RAC Adrian Tink said: "Drink driving ruins lives and has rightly become socially unacceptable over the last two decades."
Road users were warned earlier this week by price comparison site moneysupermarket.com of other winter issues which could increase the likelihood of having to make a car insurance claim, such as icy conditions and a greater chance of crashing in the dark.
