Travel insurance for trip to “magical” New York could be good investment

New York is a "magical" destination for people travelling at Christmas time, according to tourism board NYC & Company, so taking out a travel insurance policy and heading to America's east coast could be a shrewd move.

The organisation is expecting retail to be a major lure for British tourists, as the weak dollar means there are plenty of bargains to be found in the city's department stores - such as Bloomingdale's and Macy's - as well as on its world-famous shopping streets.

Anna Catchpole, PR manager for NYC & Company, said: "Christmas is a magical time to visit New York City. You can't beat the atmosphere, the lights and the window displays so it is always a popular time for Brits to visit."

Other advantages of a break in New York at this time of year include the arrival on the internet of 4,500 new places to stay ? and many hotels are offering cheaper rates to entice visitors from abroad.

According to research by the Post Office earlier this week, British shoppers can save an average of 25 per cent on Christmas presents if they buy them the other side of the Atlantic.
