Family Friendly Leave and Pay Policy

UIA supports all colleagues with our Family Friendly Leave and Pay Policy by offering enhanced pay and/or leave during periods of maternity, partner or adoption leave subject to statutory requirements and meeting the eligibility criteria. In summary, our policies cover the following;

Maternity Leave and Pay

  • Colleagues must have 52 weeks or more continuous service at the qualifying week (15th week before the date of confinement) and have indicated an intention to return to work.
  • The Society offers 10 weeks full pay and 10 weeks half pay inclusive of statutory maternity pay.
  • Repayment condition - In the event that a colleague fails to return to work or returns to work for a period of less than three months, the Society will reclaim any contractual maternity pay received on a reducing scale.
  • Keeping in touch days (KIT days) - Access to up to 10 paid keeping in touch days.

Partner Leave and Pay

  • Colleagues must have 52 weeks or more continuous service at the qualifying week (15th week before the date of confinement)
  • The Society offers 2 weeks paternity leave at full pay inclusive of statutory paternity pay.
  • No repayment condition

Adoption Leave and Pay

  • Colleague must have a minimum of 52 weeks continuous service leading into the week in which they are notified of being matched with a child for adoption and have indicated an intention to return to work.
  • The Society offers 10 weeks full pay and 10 weeks half pay inclusive of statutory adoption pay.
  • Repayment condition - In the event that a colleague fails to return to work or returns to work for a period of less than three months, the Society will reclaim any contractual adoption pay received on a reducing scale.
  • Keeping in touch days (KIT) - Access to up to 10 paid keeping in touch days.

Shared Parental Leave and Pay

  • Each parent qualifies separately for Shared Parental Leave and Statutory Shared Parental Pay.
  • Shared Parental Leave in touch days (SPLIT) – Access to up to 20 paid shared parental leave in touch days. This is in addition to 10 keeping in touch days available to those on maternity or adoption leave.

Parental Leave

  • 18 weeks unpaid parental leave is available to all colleagues who have completed one year of service with the Society and have legal parental responsibility for a child.
  • Such leave must be taken before the child’s eighteenth birthday and not more than four weeks of parental leave in any calendar year.
